Client Success Story

"Immigrating to Canada in 2001 was a huge transition for me and my family but I actually felt welcomed to this country when I moved to Cambridge in 2004 and visited the YMCA of Cambridge Cross Cultural and Immigrant Services (CCIS).  At every step of my integration into the community CCIS had some important part to play.  One of these was the opportunity to volunteer in the CCIS office. During that time I was also looking for a job and my employment search had come to a dead end when I decided to take the employment workshop delivered by the Newcomer Employment Centre.  This program helped me to develop the social and personal skills that were essential for increasing employability and finding and keeping a meaningful job.  In 2008, I applied for the front office staff position at CCIS and successfully became an employee of the YMCA.  From a front office staff position to an administrative assistant position, and now working as a settlement worker in schools, my association with the YMCA of Cambridge Cross Cultural and Immigrant Services has allowed my career journey to prosper one, but firm, step at a time."  Faryal Anwar
